A self-drive car rental in Nepal can give you more control over your itinerary. The right choice depends on your route, the vehicle, and the rental terms—not just the daily rate. Use this checklist to have a clear conversation with the rental provider before you confirm.
Confirm self-drive availability and requirements
Start by asking whether self-drive is available for your dates, vehicle and planned route. Ask what driving licence and identity documents are accepted, whether there are minimum age or driving-experience requirements, and whether every person who may drive must be listed on the booking. Requirements can vary by provider and may depend on the driver’s circumstances, so confirm them before making travel plans.
If you are travelling from outside Nepal, do not assume that a licence or permit is accepted automatically. Ask the provider which documents they require and check current local requirements through an appropriate official source.
Check the vehicle against your route
Share your itinerary, including overnight stops and any steep, narrow or unpaved roads. Ask which vehicle is appropriate and whether your route is permitted under the rental agreement. Compare seating, luggage space, transmission, ground clearance and fuel type using the exact vehicle listing; do not rely on a similar model’s specifications.
Understand the full price and deposit
Ask what the quoted rate includes and whether there are mileage limits, delivery charges, taxes, extra-driver fees or charges for late return. Confirm the deposit amount, how it is paid, what deductions may apply and when the balance is returned. Check the fuel level required at return and whether fuel or charging is included.
Read the protection and support terms
Review the insurance or protection policy before collecting the car. Ask about exclusions, deductibles, damage reporting and what to do after an accident or breakdown. Save the provider’s contact number and confirm whether roadside assistance is available for your route. Get important terms in writing.
Document the handover
At pickup, compare the vehicle with the listing and check the condition, keys, documents and equipment. Photograph existing scratches or damage and share the images with the provider. Confirm the return location, time, expected fuel or charge level, and who to contact if you are delayed.
Self-drive booking checklist
Driver eligibility and required documents confirmed
Dates, pickup point, route and return plan approved
Vehicle details checked for passengers, luggage and road conditions
Rate, mileage, deposit, fuel or charging and extra fees understood
Protection terms, exclusions and breakdown process reviewed
Vehicle condition and handover details recorded
These checks make it easier to compare self-drive car rental options in Nepal. Before booking through Charge&Go Mobility Pvt. Ltd., confirm the current listing, requirements and agreement for your specific trip.
Check vehicles and confirm self-drive eligibility
Browse the current Charge&Go fleet in Pokhara for vehicle details, daily rates and booking status. Review the NAMMI VIGO E2+ and iCAUR listings, then ask the rental desk whether the specific vehicle can be rented for self-drive on your dates and planned route. A listing does not by itself confirm driver eligibility or route permission.
For an EV journey, read our electric car rental planning guide. The car rental guide for Nepal covers comparing vehicles and total costs. Contact the rental desk to confirm documents, availability, pickup and the final agreement before booking.
Prepare your enquiry before choosing a car
Give the rental desk enough detail to check your request properly: your pickup and return dates and times, number of passengers, luggage, proposed driver and complete route. Mention stops outside Pokhara and any road you are unsure about. If you need an additional driver or a different return point, raise that at the enquiry stage.
Keep a copy of the agreed details. A message asking about a car is different from a confirmed rental, particularly when the listing is already marked booked. Ask which vehicle is being offered for your dates and what is required to complete the booking.
Documents, returning visitors and additional drivers
Tell the desk where your driving licence was issued and whether it covers the vehicle you want to rent. Ask which original identity and driving documents need to be presented at pickup. The name on the booking, licence and identification should be checked before you travel to collect the car.
If you live overseas or are returning to Nepal for a visit, ask about your particular documents in advance. Nationality, residence and the country that issued a licence are different questions. Do not assume that a family member's eligibility applies to you, or that a rental enquiry establishes legal permission to drive. Check current official requirements as well as the rental provider's conditions.
Where more than one person may drive, ask for each driver to be approved under the rental agreement. Agree what happens if the planned driver cannot collect the car. Do not simply pass the keys to someone who has not been accepted for the booking.
Turn the quote into a clear cost checklist
Ask for the rental period to be expressed using the actual pickup and return times. Clarify whether a late return changes the charge and how extensions are approved. A vehicle being available for three days does not automatically mean it can be kept for a fourth.
Vehicle rental: rate, dates, time allowance and any applicable taxes.
Deposit: amount, payment method, return process and possible deductions.
Use: mileage allowance, permitted route and any additional driver conditions.
Running costs: fuel or charging, parking and other trip expenses.
Handover: agreed pickup or delivery arrangements and return location.
Protection: what cover applies, exclusions and your responsibility if something happens.
Our guide to comparing car rentals in Nepal explains how to look beyond a starting daily rate. For an electric vehicle, add the EV charging and range checklist to your budget and itinerary.
Use a pickup and return checklist
At collection, walk around the car with the team and record visible marks, the interior, tyres and the fuel or battery level. Check that the keys, documents and any supplied accessories match the agreement. Ask for a demonstration of unfamiliar controls, including selecting drive and reverse and using the parking brake.
Before returning, check your agreed time, location and fuel or battery requirement. Remove personal belongings and bring back all supplied items. Keep the condition record until the return inspection and deposit process are complete. If your plans change, contact the desk promptly to agree the next step.
Self-drive car rental in Nepal: frequently asked questions
Does a vehicle listing mean I am approved to drive it?
No. A listing helps you compare cars. Self-drive availability, driver eligibility and route permission still need to be confirmed for your particular booking with the Charge&Go rental desk.
What documents should I bring?
Ask the desk which valid driving licence and original identity documents are required for your circumstances. Tell them where your licence was issued and who will drive. Resolve document questions before arriving for pickup.
Can another person drive the rental?
Ask for any additional driver to be checked and approved before they drive. Confirm whether their documents must be presented and whether any extra conditions or charges apply. Do not assume the booking covers everyone in your group.
How much is the security deposit?
Obtain the amount and payment method for your exact booking. Ask when it is returned and which agreed deductions may apply. A starting daily rate on the vehicle page should not be read as the deposit amount.
Can I drive outside Pokhara?
Send your full itinerary before booking and ask which routes are permitted for the offered vehicle. Road suitability, charging access and the rental conditions all matter. Permission for one trip should not be assumed to cover another route.
Can I extend my self-drive rental?
Contact the desk before the agreed return time. An extension depends on availability and agreement on the revised dates, rate and conditions. Keeping the car longer without confirmation may conflict with another customer's booking.
What should I do if I notice damage or a warning light?
Stop in a safe place if continued driving may be unsafe and contact the rental desk. Follow the agreed reporting process. Confirm the assistance contact and responsibilities at handover instead of waiting until a problem occurs.
Where can I compare Charge&Go cars?
Use the live vehicle listings to compare the NAMMI VIGO E2+ and iCAUR. Send your preferred car, dates and route to the desk for a booking-specific answer about self-drive suitability.
